Behind the Scenes with Nathan LaPointe: Playing Pete in Pete the Cat

CMTM is thrilled to bring everyone’s favorite feline rockstar to life in “Pete the Cat,” running in CMTM’s Maddy’s Theatre from February 1-23, 2025. In anticipation of opening night, CMTM spoke with Nathan LaPointe, who plays Pete the Cat, about the importance of music, cats, and what audiences can expect from this rockin’ production.

CMTM: What role does music play in your life? 

Nathan: Music has played an essential role throughout my life. Not only has it brought me joy and passion, it has provided me with the opportunity to help others. It gives me the means to motivate, spread love, and have fun.

CMTM: You play one of the most iconic cats of all time in “Pete the Cat.” Do you have any cats in your life? How have they influenced your portrayal of Pete?

Nathan: I've always had such a kinship with cats. I love them with all my heart and soul. Currently, our cat, Calvin is my inspiration for Pete the Cat. He is a confident, playful, and talented cat, and you can see him shine in videos I post online.

CMTM: What do you love about the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine?

Nathan: It has provided me with a workplace that allows me to truly be myself and utilize my talents to help positively influence our youth in a powerful way. From my coworkers to the people who visit, it is truly a place unlike any other.

CMTM: What has the experience of putting together this show been like?

Nathan: It's been an absolute blast. The whole team is unbelievably talented and the fact that I am on the stage in this capacity again makes me emotional and so very happy. Acting and music have always been my passions and to be able to put it all together is just phenomenal.

CMTM: What can audiences expect to see in “Pete the Cat?”

Nathan: They can expect to laugh, rock out, and have an experience of a lifetime.

“Pete the Cat” runs February 1-23, 2025 at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine. For Pete the Cat, life is an adventure no matter where you wind up. Even after he gets caught rocking after bedtime and sent to live with the squarest of the square Biddle family, Pete can get them rocking in no time! That is, except for young Jimmy Biddle, the most organized second grader on planet Earth. Pete and Jimmy are total opposites and have to live together.  The last thing Jimmy needs is Pete turning everything upside down. But, when Jimmy has a surprise pop quiz in art, it’s Pete to the rescue!
