Please note that the following tips do not include our Health + Safety Policies and Procedures and that some of these may be most relevant when the pandemic ends.
Change of Clothes: Between water play, painting, and sand exploration, there’s a high potential for messy fun-bring a change of clothes in case yours gets wet in the Go With the Flow exhibit area.
Restrooms are located on each level and a family restroom is located on the second floor. All restrooms are equipped with changing tables.
Diapers and wipes: If you have forgotten or run out of diapers or wipes, just ask at the front desk. Diapers may be disposed of in the Museum & Theatre’s restroom trash cans.
Nursing is welcome throughout the building, and there are spaces to sit on every level. If you would prefer to nurse in private, our Nursing Nook is located on the second floor in the Our Neighborhood exhibit.
Eating & Drinking:
Food and drink are permitted in the 1st Floor Atrium, Outdoor Adventure exhibits, and Gather Lawn. The exceptions are that you may bring your own water, baby bottles, and nursing, of course.
There is no eating or drinking in Maddy’s Theatre or on the 2nd floor.
CMTM has a snack shack with a limited menu for purchase. We recommend visiting Thompson’s Point Food & Drink Options for additional options.
Strollers: Space for strollers is extremely limited and we recommend not bringing one, if possible. We recommend that only families with babies, young toddlers, and children with accessibility needs use strollers. See below for stroller related guidelines.
Stroller guidelines:
There is limited space to store strollers in the coat room on the 1st floor. Please collapse your stroller to conserve space.
Strollers in the exhibits cannot be larger than 31’’ (79 cm) and 52’’. Wagons and “stroller wagons” are not allowed.
All accessibility devices are allowed (no size restrictions).
CMTM staff are allowed to move your stroller at any time. If you leave your stroller in a pathway unattended, you may find it somewhere else. Staff will move strollers to clear paths and for other safety related reasons.
Lost and Found: Have you lost or found something? We keep lost and found items at the front desk for at least one week. Please call 207-828-1234, ext. 231. For health reasons, we do not retain heavily soiled clothes, food, sippy cups, water bottles, or pacifiers.
Valuables: We do not have lockers or monitored storage areas. The Museum & Theatre is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please do not leave anything of value unattended.
Emergencies: Our staff are trained in child/adult CPR, First Aid, the use of our on-site AED, and our evacuation protocols, so they are prepared to help during emergencies. You should always phone “911” if you witness a life-threatening emergency. Our address is: 250 Thompson’s Point Road, Portland.
Safety: Our exhibits are professionally designed to be safe places to play. If you find a safety concern, please let a staff member know immediately!
Cleaning: The Museum & Theatre is cleaned nightly by a professional cleaning service using hospital-grade disinfectants. Our staff sanitize surfaces throughout the day. All of our props and toys are cleaned on a regular basis (plastic food and toddler park toys are washed and sanitized nightly; all other props, such as stuffed animals, are washed at least once a week). If a prop has been in your child’s mouth, please let us know, or simply place it in a dirty toy bin.
Identifying Staff: Our staff and volunteers wear blue aprons and vests and name tags. If you have a question, need assistance, or have a safety concern or incident to report, please let us know.
