Come and meet owl ambassadors with Center for Wildlife educators. These non-releasable owls provide a unique opportunity to discover this diverse species of New England owls, their habitats, diets, and calls, and learn tips on how to spot them in the wild. This engaging program connects families with these beautiful ambassadors by sharing their natural and personal histories and empowers everyone to help steward the environment we all share.

It's time for CMTM's annual, one-of-a-kind, sensory-friendly Halloween-themed playtime! This event includes trick-or-treating, Halloween art time, exploring the museum exhibits, and a small snack. Play Your Way is an ongoing sensory-friendly play time open to anyone who would benefit from a quieter, low-key experience. This is the perfect time for families affected by Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or other challenges to explore CMTM, meet other families with similar experiences, and see if the Museum & Theatre is the right fit for you and your family.

In honor of Halloween weekend, The Center for Wildlife will present Nature's Nightshift: Nocturnal Animals. Meet nocturnal animals and learn from Center for Wildlife educators during this fun and educational show. Tickets are $8 per person for anyone aged 18 months and older. Members receive a 10% discount.

Come experience a low-key Halloween at the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine during a festive playtime for children with sensory integration challenges. Follow a trick or treat visual map to find treats throughout the Museum & Theatre, play in our exhibits, and show off your costume in a warm and inviting atmosphere. This is a perfect time for families affected by Autism, Down syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, or other challenges to experience the Museum & Theatre and celebrate the season. Our staff will make special adjustments to our normal exhibit lighting and sound design; noise-reducing headphones will be available. A limited number of visitors will be admitted to ensure a calm and welcoming play environment.
Masks are required for everyone ages 5 & up and recommended for ages 2-4. We understand that it can be challenging to wear masks due to sensory challenges, but please do your best to have your child wear a mask. Masks are not required in our outdoor exhibits.
