Gather ‘Round Concert Series: Namory Keita

On Thursday, November 18th, Namory Keita will be performing at the Museum & Theatre in Maddy’s Theatre. Namory Keita is a Master Drummer from West Africa, with a unique style and wealth of traditional knowledge from villages of Guinea. As a Master Drummer, Namory Keita is a teacher, performer, and drum maker. He is based in Portland, ME and Sangbaralla, Guinea.


This musical performance is the second performance of our Gather ‘Round Concert series, highlighting diverse musicians from Maine. The general public is encouraged to come enjoy the music, free of charge, but please note that parking is metered. The performance will be Covid-safe and socially distanced. All visitors ages 5+ are required to wear masks.

Namory Keita will play two sets, at 2-2:30 and 3-3:30. Visitors attending a play session are welcome to attend the live performance and will have plenty of time to explore the Museum & Theatre before or after the performance.

On Saturday, October 9th the Burnurwurbskek Singers will be performing at the Museum & Theatre on the Gather Lawn. This musical performance is the first performance of our Gather ‘Round Concert series, highlighting diverse musicians from Maine. The general public is encouraged to come enjoy the music, free of charge, but please note that parking is metered. The outdoor performance will be Covid-safe and socially distanced. In the event that social distancing is not possible, please wear a mask.

Comprised of men representing many of Maine’s Wabanaki people, the Burnurwurbskek Singers perform traditional northeast woodland songs as well as more contemporary, intertribal songs, passed down in their rich oral tradition from generation to generation.

The Burnurwurbskek Singers will play two sets, one during the Saturday morning play session at 11:30 am and the other just prior to the Saturday afternoon play session at 12:30 pm. Visitors attending a play session are welcome to attend the live performance and will have plenty of time to explore the Museum & Theatre before or after the performance.

Feeding Maine Families Day

A free, outdoor event on the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine’s Gather Lawn on October 2, 2021 from 9 am-4pm, sponsored by Hood on the occasion of their 175th Anniversary. Activities will include a community food drive, ice cream sandwich giveaways, and a whipped cream science education station. Feeding Maine Families Day raises awareness about families and children experiencing hunger in Maine, highlights initiatives to combat childhood hunger, and promotes food science education in a playful way.

All visitors to the Museum & Theatre, customers of other businesses on Thompson’s Point, and residents of the Libbytown Neighborhood are encouraged to participate in this free event. Please note, visitors must still pay for parking if driving to Thompson’s Point.

This event is made possible in partnership with Hood, Preble Street Resource Center, The Locker Project, and Public School Food Services from both Portland and Westbrook. Thompson’s Point businesses Rosemont Market, Rwanda Bean Coffee, Stroudwater Distillery, and Color Me Mine will be generously providing coupons for all to donate to the community Food Drive.
