Afterschool: Audition Workshop (Ages 10+)

  • The Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Do you love acting? Do you want to perform in a play alongside professional adult actors? Would you like to perform a show many times for thousands of families and school groups?

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is seeking young actors (ages 10 and up) for two intergenerational theatre productions that will be staged this spring, 2023. Intergenerational productions are opportunities for young and adult actors to perform together. The schedules are rigorous. Actors are expected to commit to the calendar and all young actors will be double cast in both productions.

If you’ve never auditioned before, don’t worry! Our audition process is designed with the first time auditioner in mind. We begin with theatre games and read some scenes from the play in small groups. For musicals, we ask that you sing a song you love. The director may ask you to come back for callbacks to hear you read again before making final casting decisions.

If you’ve never auditioned before, consider attending an audition workshop. This is a chance to see the theatre space and participate in a mock audition just for fun.

Caregivers are welcome to wait in the Museum & Theatre's Atrium during the audition or drop off their child.
All parking requires payment using the parking kiosks or using Passport Parking mobile app (We are zone 1213).

After School Workshop: Makerspace Movers for Ages 5-7 (Session 2)

  • The Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Makerspace becomes your personal workshop for engineering things that move!  This drop off program every Tuesday for seven weeks is designed to introduce 5-7 year olds to using tools safely and the magic of simple machines. With tool knowledge under our belts, we will embark on a long term building project to create a car, truck, train or other moving vehicle.

Trained Makerspace staff will support youth makers through the engineering steps of designing, creating, testing, revising and sharing. As the making continues we will draw upon our imaginations to create environments for our vehicles, complete with drivers, roadways, or magical destinations.

Payment for the Makerspace Moves program is accepted on a sliding scale of $0 to $350 per participant.

Session 2 will run from April 26th to June 7th. Please note that you are welcome to sign up for both Makerspace Movers sessions but the projects will be the same.

After School Workshop: Watershed Deep Dive for Ages 8-10

  • The Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Take a deep dive into the Children’s Museum and Theatre’s Aquarium exhibit and go on unique field trips to the nearby Fore River Trail. In this drop off program for 8-10 year olds, we will explore ecosystems, plants, and animals that are native to the land and waters that we call Maine.

Every Tuesday after school for 14 weeks get an up-close look at a new animal and discover how they move, what they eat, and where they live. Be a scientist - travel from the mountain lakes, through rushing rivers and calm ponds, out to tidepools and the open ocean - and observe how the habitats are all connected. Trained staff will support scientific inquiry, data collection, and foster environmental stewardship among participants.

The Watershed Deep Dive workshop will run from March 1st to June 7th. Please note there will not be a session on April 19, 2022.

Payment for the Makerspace Moves program is accepted on a sliding scale of $0 to $250 per participant.
